| Abstract: | Стаття містить опис оригінального експериментального дослідження, результати якого доводять залежність вибору стратегій письмового перекладу англійською мовою з української майбутніми фахівцями у галузі міжнародних відносин від ступеня розвитку їхньої перекладацької компетентності: на нижчих етапах переважає орієнтація на поверхневу структуру тексту оригіналу (ТО) та застосування калькування, в той час як на вищих рівнях — більша увага приділяється змісту ТО, що відповідно збільшує частку трансформацій. Статья содержит описание оригинального экспериментального исследования, результаты которого доказывают зависимость выбора стратегий в письменном переводе будущими специалистами в области международных отношений от степени развития их переводческой компетентности. На более низких этапах преимущественно используется ориентировка на поверхностную структуру текста оригинала (ТО) и калькирование, в то время как на более продвинутых – больше внимания уделяется содержанию ТО, что соответственно повышает долю трансформаций. |
| Description: | The article, on the basis of the original experimental research, argues for the dependence of translation strategies choice by students majoring in International Relations upon the level of their translation competence (TC): at lower levels sign-oriented renderings and calquing prevail while the share of sense-oriented renderings and transformation strategy increases at the more advanced stages. Thus, the share of calquing, which is the highest (57%) with the subjects of the lowest TC level (group I), is gradually decreasing (alongside with the correspondent increase in the TC level) to 42% with the subjects of medium TC level (group 2) and to 39% - with the subjects of group 3 (the highest TC level). As far as transformation is concerned, the opposite tendency is observed: its share is progressively increasing from the minimal one in group 1 (43%) to 58% in group 2, reaching its maximum of 61% in group 3. Thus we may conclude that the research hypothesis has been corroborated: the correlation of calquing and transformation strategies depends on the level of students' TC development – the share of transformations increases alongside with the increase in the TC level development, and it decreases as the said level declines. The share of calquing has an opposite tendence, decreasing alongside with the decrease in the TC level. Correspondingly, one of the distinguished features of the students' TC development is the prevailing source text surface structure orientation and calquing at the initial stages with the gradual change of focus towards the deep structure at the subsequent stages of the students' TC development. |
