dc.descriptionThe global spread and easy access to digital photographic, video and audio survey equipment as well as the Internet resources have given rise to the dominance of visual components in communication. Given the fact that a lot of photographic and video materials that capture a criminal activity are uploaded on the Internet, it allows the pre-trial investigation to establish the criminals’ whereabouts, as the file of an automatic video surveillance or photo contains data on the geographic location and time when the shots or footage were made. The peculiar criminalistic feature of the cyberspace is that the objects which interact in it have no external structure. This renders all the store of means and methods of handling material traces, accumulated by traceology, virtually useless in this particular case. This fact makes criminalistic study of electronic data storage devices especially relevant. In this regard in order to provide criminal law enforcement bodies with innovative «products» we have suggested the ways of applying information technologies to establish the whereabouts of the wanted individual as well as the individual’s identification in the criminal investigation proceedings.en_US
