dc.descriptionInvestigated the essential characteristics of the Ukrainian national idea. It is proposed to interpret national idea as a strategic goal of national development and conceptual ground state processes in Ukraine. Analyzed national idea of the Ukrainian people in terms of values. In particular, the Ukrainian national idea and in accordance state domestic progress should be based on values and priorities such as social justice, equality of all citizens before the law, freedom of life strategies, respect for national and cultural traditions of Ukrainian people and ethnic communities living on its territory, democracy in all spheres of public life, the embodiment of moral norms in social relations etc. Defined features interpretations of the national idea in the scientific discourse. It was shown that national unity is interpreted as political, cultural, spiritual and ethno-mental characteristics. Specifies the functions of the national idea, among which are crucial ethno-nation-creation, integrating, identity, cultural, axiological and state-creative. It is alleged that the strategic goal of implementation of the national idea is to build an independent state. It is proved that the national idea is the uniting factor of strategic development only when values that it laid shares both elite and ordinary citizens. Grounded correlativity ideas and development of the national state building process in Ukraine. The national idea has to modernize accordance with the requirements of today while keeping the spiritual values of the Ukrainian people. The national idea is the basis of effective statehood modernization project if meets the following requirements: democratic, progressive, spirituality. In modern conditions the national idea as the state-project should not absorb archaic symbols and conservative ideas and focus on purely liberal (globalized, denationalized) values. Ukrainian national idea should be based on historical, cultural, spiritual, mental and motivated implemented in specific projects of development of the state.en
