The article deals with the phenomenon of victimity, its nature, structural elements, forms and types have been analyzed. Definition of victimity has been proposed and the role of victimity in the selection of victims by criminals has been ascertained. The author understands victimity as a vulnerability of society members to crime under certain circumstances. The level of this vulnerability can vary. Victimity as a phenomenon is an ability of social object to be exposed to crime under certain circumstances, situations or because of the others’ activities. The author confirms that victimity can be in criminogenic and non-criminogenic forms. In such a way a criminogenic victimity causes the formation of criminal personality, his/her anti-social behavior and criminal motivation because of connections and relations before crime. This type of victimity is embodied in personal features of the victim and his/her behavior, contributes to the cooperation between the criminal and the victim. In turn, non-criminogenic victimity creates only an objective opportunity to commit crime against its bearer. It does not cause cooperation between the criminal and the victim within certain life circumstances, does not have a direct influence on criminal motivation and decision to commit the crime. The author brings the following types of victimity: individual, specific, group and mass one. Specific victimity is expressed in typical features, psychological peculiarities and relevant type of victim’s behavior in various crimes. It can be common occupation, way of living, relations with criminal, prejudice and type of behavior in pre-crime situation. Group victimity is an increased ability to become a victim of crime because of common age, gender, professional peculiarities, political views, race, nationality, religion, place of residence. Mass victimity is the system of integrated victimogenic features of the entire population, various social groups and certain individuals, which identify regularity of victim behavior under certain circumstances, transform them into an attractive object of crime. Mass victimity threatens to the entire social security. It represents a joint victimogenic potential of the society.en
